José Enrique

José Enrique put Santurce's food scene on the international map in the early 2000s, and the restaurant — relocated and rebuilt after Hurricane María, still run by the same chef — remains one of the most important kitchens in the Caribbean. The cooking is what Enrique calls "elevated Puerto Rican": local seafood, market produce, deeply traditional flavours, plated with restraint.

The menu changes daily — printed on butcher paper, brought to the table for you to read. Whole fried snapper with mofongo, asopao de pollo, and braised short rib with batatas are recurrent. The space is intimate, the kitchen visible, and walk-ins still happen if you arrive early. Reservations are difficult on weekends.
