The National Museum on Front Street, housed in the 19th-century Guinep House — one of the oldest stone buildings in the country — is the right place to start a Cockburn Town visit. The collection is small but coherent: Lucayan artefacts, salt-raking tools, the Molasses Reef Wreck timbers and ballast, and material on John Glenn's 1962 splashdown off Grand Turk.
Allow an hour to read the displays and ten minutes more for the garden. Admission is a few dollars; the building itself is half the experience.
