Practical Information

Entry Requirements

Citizens of the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and most EU countries do not need a visa and can stay for up to 90 days. A valid passport is required; US, UK, and Canadian passport holders need a passport valid only for the duration of their stay, but most other nationalities should have at least six months' validity beyond their departure date.

You will need an onward or return ticket, and immigration officers may ask for proof of accommodation. Turks and Caicos is a British Overseas Territory, so travel advisories for it are issued separately from those for the UK.

Currency and Money

The official currency is the US dollar. Credit cards are accepted at all hotels and most restaurants and shops on Providenciales and Grand Turk. ATMs are available on the main islands. On outer islands, carry cash.

Customs

You may bring in USD 1,000 worth of goods duty-free. Allowances include one quart of spirits, 200 cigarettes, 50 cigars, or 8 ounces of tobacco. Amounts over USD 10,000 in cash or negotiable instruments must be declared.

Firearms and ammunition are strictly prohibited, including single cartridges accidentally packed in luggage. The police enforce this at the airport, including when passengers are departing.

Health and Safety

No vaccinations are required for entry. Tap water is generally safe on the main islands but many visitors drink bottled water. Sunburn is a serious hazard — the sun is intense year-round.

Turks and Caicos is a low-crime destination, but petty theft does occur, particularly around tourist areas on Providenciales. Normal precautions apply.
