Huntsville is a car-dependent city, and most visitors will want their own vehicle. The U.S. Space and Rocket Center, Monte Sano State Park, Burritt on the Mountain, and the Botanical Garden are all well spread out and not easily reached on foot or by transit.
Downtown Huntsville is compact and walkable. The historic districts, Big Spring Park, the Von Braun Center, and the Clinton Avenue bar strip are all within comfortable walking distance of each other. Parking downtown is generally easy and inexpensive.
The Huntsville Shuttle and Huntsville Hop provide public bus service within the city, but frequencies are low and routes are primarily designed for commuters, not visitors. Uber and Lyft both operate and are usually available. Biking is increasingly possible on a growing network of trails and lanes, particularly in and around downtown and along the Greenway.
