Eaglecrest Ski Area

Juneau's community ski mountain on Douglas Island, with rainforest snow, island views, and a distinctly local feel.

Eaglecrest is Juneau's ski hill, set on Douglas Island where Pacific storms drop snow over spruce forest and mountain bowls. It is not a polished destination resort, and that is the charm. On a good day you get lift-served skiing with views toward the Gastineau Channel and the surrounding Coast Mountains, plus the feeling that half the people on the hill know each other.

Winter visitors who ski or snowboard should check conditions before assuming it is open, since maritime weather can be fickle. In summer the mountain still has value for hiking, mountain biking, and a look at Juneau's wilder back yard. It is most worthwhile if you have already covered the glacier, museums, and waterfront and want to see how locals use the landscape.
