Lobero Theatre

The Lobero Theatre, opened in 1873 and remodelled in 1924 in Spanish Colonial style by George Washington Smith, is the oldest continuously operating theatre on the West Coast. The 600-seat hall hosts concerts, dance, and small-scale theatre — and its acoustics, in the words of more than one visiting musician, are unusually warm for an old building.

The exterior is one of the more elegant pieces of Spanish Revival architecture in the city. Look for the listings or join a daytime tour to see inside; some Sunday afternoon concerts are very cheap.
