Santa Cruz earns its reputation as a surf town, a beach town, and a university town simultaneously — and the result is more interesting than any of the three labels alone would suggest. The Beach Boardwalk is the obvious anchor; West Cliff Drive is the best walk; and the natural areas around the city — Henry Cowell Redwoods, the Wilder Ranch bluffs, Natural Bridges — are better than anything near a California beach city of this size usually offers.
