Woodward Park is Fresno's major north-side green space, spreading across 300 acres near the San Joaquin River. It has trails, ponds, picnic areas, recreation facilities, and the Shinzen Japanese Friendship Garden, making it more useful to visitors than a standard neighborhood park.
It is a good decompression stop on a Central Valley itinerary, especially if you are breaking up museum visits or a long drive. The park is broad rather than dramatic, so choose a specific goal within it instead of expecting a single obvious viewpoint.
