A Victorian estate modelled after a French chateau, built in 1897 and set on six acres of Italian-style gardens with views across the San Bernardino Valley. The house has been lived in by only three families and retains much of its original furnishing -- carved wood, stained glass, period wallpaper. The last owner, Mrs. Elizabeth Shirk, left the property to the city.
If the building looks oddly familiar, there's a reason: Hollywood's Magic Castle is an exact mirror image of it.
Open Thursday through Sunday, 1:00 to 4:00 PM. Guided tours of the interior run on the hour. The gardens are worth a stroll even without the house tour.
