Redlands

Small Inland Empire city known for citrus-era Victorian homes, museums, and the long-running Redlands Bowl concerts.

Redlands is a charming small city in the foothills east of San Bernardino, known for its "Marmalade Mansions" -- roughly 300 restored Victorian-era homes built by early residents who became wealthy in the citrus industry. The tree-lined streets and historic downtown give Redlands a distinctly different feel from the rest of the Inland Empire.

The city has a surprising concentration of museums, including the Lincoln Memorial Shrine, the San Bernardino County Museum, and the Kimberly Crest House and Gardens, a French chateau-style mansion from 1897. In summer, the Redlands Bowl hosts a free outdoor concert series that has been running since 1924, drawing over 100,000 people each season. The Edwards Mansion, an 1890 Victorian relocated to the old Barton Ranch, now serves as a wedding and event venue set among orange trees.
