Top Gun House

The Top Gun House is a Craftsman bungalow that appeared in the 1986 film Top Gun, serving as the exterior of Charlie's house in several scenes. The house was built around 1887, making it one of the oldest surviving residential structures in Oceanside, and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places largely because of its Hollywood connection.

After decades of uncertainty about its fate, the house was rescued by the Oceanside Museum of Art and relocated in 2021 to a prominent position on Mission Avenue, where it now serves as an events and community space. It's a curious piece of local history — a Victorian cottage that owes its survival to a 1980s blockbuster.

A story
The house was used for exterior filming of the 1986 film Top Gun, including the scenes where Maverick's love interest Charlie (Kelly McGillis) lives. The Craftsman bungalow was moved to its current location on Mission Avenue in 2021, after it was preserved by the Oceanside Museum of Art in a rescue operation that moved it from its original site several blocks away to save it from demolition.
