KT-22

KT-22 is the legendary expert lift at Palisades Tahoe, serving a sustained steep face that has made it a pilgrimage destination for advanced skiers for decades. The runs off KT-22 — including Fingers, Chute 75, and the main KT face — pitch at angles of 30 to 40 degrees and are routinely tracked into deep ruts on high-traffic days.

It was the favourite haunt of Jonny Moseley and other freestyle pioneers who trained in the valley during the 1990s, and its reputation has drawn expert skiers from across the world. On powder days the chair line builds quickly; the trade-off is untracked snow that lasts longer here than on the more accessible lifts.

Only for competent, confident expert skiers. The terrain does not forgive hesitation.

A story
The name KT-22 comes from a story about 1940s ski pioneer Sandy Poulsen, who supposedly counted 22 kick turns while skiing the face before the lift was built. Whether or not the count is exact, the terrain earned its reputation: KT-22 is where Jonny Moseley filmed his famous tomahawk crash for a ski film in the 1990s, and it remains one of the most watched expert runs in American skiing.
