Huntington State Beach

Two-mile state beach south of the pier toward the Santa Ana River

The state-run beach south of Beach Boulevard, running two miles to the Santa Ana River mouth at the Newport Beach line. It is less developed than the city beach — fewer concessions, fewer crowds — and protects a nesting area for the endangered California least tern and snowy plover, roped off in summer. A good cycling/skating path runs the full length, connecting to the Santa Ana River Trail that goes inland for fifty miles.
