Huntington Beach has roughly nine miles of more or less unbroken sand, divided administratively into three contiguous beaches plus Sunset Beach to the northwest and Dog Beach in between. The wave is most powerful and most crowded around the pier and tapers off in both directions. Lifeguards are on duty year-round; rip currents are normal — swim near a tower.
