Huntington Beach has the standard Southern California climate: dry and warm year-round, with most rain falling between December and March. Summer highs are typically 23–26°C (75–80°F), with afternoon onshore breezes; July and August are the busiest months. Ocean water peaks at about 21°C (70°F) in August and bottoms out around 14°C (57°F) in February — wetsuit weather most of the year.
The US Open of Surfing, held over nine days in late July, is the largest surf event in the world and turns the pier into a stadium. Streets are closed, the population doubles, and hotel rates spike — go on purpose or avoid on purpose. Pacific Airshow in early October brings the Blue Angels in low over the beach.
For mild crowds and good weather, May, September, and October are the best months. Surf City Nights runs every Tuesday year-round on Main Street.
