1898 Queen Anne farmhouse — the oldest residence in Huntington Beach

Address 19820 Beach Boulevard

The Newland House is a two-storey Queen Anne farmhouse built in 1898 by William Newland, an early settler who farmed lima beans and celery on the surrounding mesa. It is the oldest standing residence in Huntington Beach and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The interior is furnished to the period and run by the Huntington Beach Historical Society, with rooms set up as the Newlands left them. The grounds include an old barn and a small garden. Open weekend afternoons; the visit takes 45 minutes. It is a useful corrective to the impression that Huntington Beach has always been about surfboards and condos — there is more than a century of agricultural history underneath.
