Bungalow Heaven is a 16-block neighborhood in northeast Pasadena where nearly every house is a Craftsman bungalow from the 1900sā1920s, still remarkably intact. The district was named a Pasadena Landmark District in 1989 and the homes are carefully maintained ā regulations protect the architectural character and prevent inappropriate modifications. Walking through it feels like stepping into the world that architects like Greene and Greene were building for.
The annual Bungalow Heaven Home Tour, held in late April, opens dozens of private homes to visitors and is one of the most popular neighborhood events in Pasadena. The surrounding streets ā East Washington Boulevard, North Los Robles ā are good for casual walking even outside tour days. The sheer density of well-preserved period architecture, with mature trees and gardens appropriate to the era, makes this one of the most satisfying neighborhoods for a slow architectural walk in all of Los Angeles County.
