The campus is compact, beautifully landscaped, and open to visitors. The Mediterranean Revival architecture looks particularly good in Southern California light. Wander through the olive walk, peek into the open courtyards, and look for the turtle pond near the Beckman Institute. On weekdays you will see students crossing between labs that have contributed to everything from the discovery of quarks to the first images from Mars.

A story
Caltech's student body is tiny — around 2,300 — but the university has produced 46 Nobel laureates. Richard Feynman taught here for decades, and the campus was the real-life inspiration for the university in The Big Bang Theory.
