Isaac De Turk made his money in Sonoma wine and spent some of it on a stable for his racehorses — a 70-foot wooden round barn, three storeys high, with a central feeding ring and stalls radiating around it like spokes. It was completed in 1891, sat derelict for decades after racing went out of fashion, and was finally restored by the city in 2012 as a community event hall.
The barn is on the western edge of Railroad Square and is normally only accessible during scheduled events. Even from outside, it is one of the more unusual buildings in the city and a five-minute walk from the SMART station.
