Denver's first brewpub, opened in 1988 by a then-unknown John Hickenlooper (later Governor and now Senator), Wynkoop occupies the ground floor of the old J. S. Brown Mercantile across the street from Union Station. Long bar, pool tables on the second floor, and a serious beer program — Rail Yard Ale is the local benchmark.
The food is solid pub fare elevated a notch; the buffalo-meatloaf sandwich is a Denver classic. It's the obvious LoDo starting point for a night out, especially if you're arriving by train.
