Most visitors drive the Overseas Highway (US-1) from Miami, one of the great American road trips — 160 miles across 42 bridges linking the Florida Keys. The drive takes about three and a half hours without stops, but you will want to stop. Key West International Airport (EYW) has direct flights from Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Atlanta, Charlotte, and a handful of other cities, mostly on small regional jets. The airport is on the east side of the island, a short taxi or rideshare from Old Town. Greyhound runs a bus from Miami, and the Key West Express ferry connects the island to Fort Myers Beach on the Gulf Coast — a roughly four-hour crossing.
