Blowing Rocks Preserve

Blowing Rocks Preserve occupies a mile-long stretch of Jupiter Island, just east of Tequesta across the inlet. The name comes from the Anastasia limestone formation that lines the beach — during rough surf, waves force water through fissures in the rock and shoot plumes up to 50 feet into the air. It is one of the most unusual beaches in Florida, nothing like the broad sand beaches to the south.

The preserve is managed by the Nature Conservancy and protects one of the largest Anastasia rock outcroppings on the Atlantic coast, along with dune scrub, mangrove estuary, and a significant sea turtle nesting beach. Loggerhead, green, and leatherback turtles all nest here in summer. There is a small visitor centre and nature trails running through the dune vegetation. Swimming is possible but the rocky bottom makes it unsuitable for casual beach days — this is a place to look at, walk, and watch.
