Nora Mill Granary, 3 miles south of Helen on GA-75, is a working 19th-century grist mill powered by the Chattahoochee River. Built in 1876, it has operated continuously since and still uses its original stone grinding wheels to produce stone-ground grits, cornmeal, rye flour, and buckwheat flour. You can watch the grinding in action and buy fresh-ground products from the mill store.
Stone-ground grits from Nora Mill are well regarded by Southern food enthusiasts — the whole-grain grind retains more flavour and texture than the processed commercial version. The mill store also stocks local preserves, sauces, and gift items. It is an unaffected, genuinely working historic site in a region heavy on theming.
