Christ Church, just south of Fort Frederica, is a small white-clapboard Carpenter Gothic church set in a clearing of live oaks and Spanish moss. The site itself is older than the building — the Wesley brothers, founders of Methodism, preached here under the trees in 1736 when they came to Georgia as Anglican missionaries.
The current church was built in 1884 on the foundations of an earlier church destroyed during the Civil War. The interior is intimate, with stained glass and dark wood pews; the surrounding graveyard is one of the oldest in Georgia. Open most weekday afternoons; donations welcomed.
