When to Go

The most comfortable months on St. Simons are April, May, and October — warm enough for the beach, cooler than the summer, and far less crowded. The summer is hot and humid, with afternoon thunderstorms and an active bug season; the trade-off is the warmest water of the year. Summer weekends bring full hotels, full restaurants, and a much busier village.

September and October sit inside hurricane season; storms are infrequent but worth checking the forecast. Winter is mild — daytime highs in the high 50s to mid-60s Fahrenheit (12–18°C) — and a good time for golfers, birders, and walkers. The island never goes fully quiet; many restaurants are open all year.
