Pāʻia Town

Funky north shore surf town — the gateway to the Road to Hāna and Hoʻokipa Beach

Pāʻia is Maui's most characterful small town — a former sugar plantation settlement that reinvented itself as a hub for windsurfers, artists, and alternative-lifestyle types. It sits at the junction of the Hāna Highway and the Baldwin Avenue road up to Makawao, making it an inevitable stop before or after the Road to Hāna.

The town is compact: a single main street with organic cafes, surf shops, fish tacos, ice cream stands, and a handful of galleries. Mama's Fish House, just east of town, is the island's most celebrated restaurant and requires reservations weeks in advance. The beaches at Hoʻokipa and Baldwin Park are a few minutes away by car. Parking can be scarce on weekends — arrive early and walk in from the edge of town.
