Lisle is a village in DuPage County, west of Chicago, and it is most interesting to travellers because of the Morton Arboretum. That one place gives Lisle a stronger identity than many suburbs around it: woods, gardens, prairie, and trails within an easy Metra ride or drive from the city.
Downtown Lisle is small and practical, with a train station on Metra's BNSF Line, a few restaurants, and a cluster of local parks. It does not have Chicago's urban energy or Naperville's polished centre, but it works well as a quiet base in the western suburbs.
Come for the arboretum first. If you have extra time, the local museums and Benedictine University's small natural history collection add a bit of local texture.
