Bettendorf is one of the four cities that make up the Quad Cities metropolitan area, straddling the Mississippi River on the Iowa–Illinois border. It is the quieter, more residential half of the Iowa side — neighbouring Davenport is the commercial centre — but has its own appeal for visitors passing through.
The main draws are the Mississippi Riverfront Trail — a flat, paved path connecting Bettendorf to the wider Quad Cities river corridor — and the Family Museum, a genuinely good hands-on children's museum with exhibits rooted in local geography and industry. The Isle Casino Hotel has a prominent position along the river. For anything more substantial — dining, nightlife, cultural events — Davenport and the Illinois cities of Moline and Rock Island are a short drive away.
