Red River National Wildlife Refuge is the easiest way to trade Bossier City's casinos and traffic for bottomland woods. The refuge protects wetlands, oxbows, and river habitat used by migratory birds, deer, turtles, and all the smaller life that gathers where water slows down.
The visitor centre and trails make it approachable even if you are not a serious birder. Go early or late in the day, when the light is better and the refuge feels much farther from the city than it really is.
