The standard short hike out of Greenville Junction. The trail is about 3 miles to the summit (3,196 feet) and takes around two hours up — steady through hardwood and spruce, opening out near the top onto bare granite ledges. A fire tower at the summit, manned in season, gives the long classic view: Moosehead Lake stretching north toward Kineo and the Big Spencer Range, with Katahdin sometimes visible on a clear day.
Bring layers — the summit can be 15°F cooler than the trailhead, and the wind cuts. The trailhead is on Route 6/15 about 5 miles from Greenville Junction.
