Seaplane Rides

Float-plane tours over Moosehead Lake and the North Woods

Seaplanes have been the practical way to get into the deep Maine backcountry since the 1920s, and a handful of outfits still fly out of Greenville for both sightseeing trips and drop-offs at remote camps. A 20-minute scenic flight gets you out over Mount Kineo and back; a longer trip takes in Katahdin, the Allagash, or the source of the Penobscot. Currier's Flying Service has been doing this since the 1960s and is a fixture on the junction shoreline.

Pricier than the boat trip but unforgettable. Best in clear weather.
