Minneapolis has solid public transit for a mid-sized American city. Metro Transit runs buses across the metro area on a reliable timetable, and the light rail system connects downtown Minneapolis to the airport, Mall of America, and downtown St. Paul. The Nice Ride bike-share system is excellent in warmer months, and the city's extensive network of bike lanes and off-road trails makes cycling a genuine transportation option, not just recreation. In winter, the downtown skyway system — eleven miles of enclosed, climate-controlled walkways connecting buildings at the second-floor level — lets you move through the city center without stepping outside.
