Minneapolis has a deep arts and culture scene, an extensive park system, and enough sports to fill every season. The Walker Art Center and its outdoor sculpture garden are essential. The Guthrie Theater, designed by Jean Nouvel, is worth visiting for the building alone. For independent and foreign films, the Landmark Lagoon Cinema at 1320 Lagoon Avenue and the Landmark Uptown Theatre at 2906 Hennepin Avenue are both in the Uptown district and well worth a visit.
The Chain of Lakes offers miles of walking and biking paths. Minnehaha Falls, where Minnehaha Creek drops into the Mississippi gorge, is a short ride from downtown and striking in every season — including winter, when it freezes into an ice sculpture.
