Nicollet Island is a 48-acre island in the Mississippi River between the East Bank and the Nicollet Island/East Bank neighbourhood, connected to both banks by bridges and constituting one of the most unusual residential addresses in Minneapolis. The island has a small population of permanent residents living in Victorian houses that have survived successive plans to redevelop it, and the southern end is a public park.
The Nicollet Island Pavilion, a restored 1893 pavilion building at the island's southern tip, is a wedding and event venue overlooking the river. The park walkways offer views upstream to Saint Anthony Falls and the Stone Arch Bridge and downstream to the river bends south of downtown. The island is most interesting to visit on foot, crossing from the Hennepin Avenue Bridge on the west side and exiting via the East River Road Bridge on the east.
