Target Field

Target Field is the home of the Minnesota Twins major league baseball team, an open-air ballpark in the North Loop neighbourhood that opened in 2010. The park seats about 38,500 and is widely regarded as one of the better modern ballparks, with excellent sightlines, a useful food-and-drink variety, and sight lines designed to frame views of the Minneapolis skyline from the upper decks.

The Twins season runs from April through September/October. Summer evening games are a Minneapolis institution — the weather is reliably good from May through August, the North Loop restaurants provide pre-game dining, and the stadium itself is compact enough that the upper deck feels connected to the action below. Standing-room and same-day tickets are often available for non-marquee games.

A story
Target Field opened in 2010 after 27 years of the Twins playing in the Metrodome — an indoor stadium that most baseball people considered unsuitable for the sport. The political fight to build an outdoor stadium lasted over a decade; Hennepin County ultimately agreed to fund it with a sales tax. The park opened to immediate acclaim as one of the better new ballparks in America, with sightlines designed to take advantage of the Minneapolis skyline and a limestone facade that uses stone quarried from the same Upper Midwest geological formation as the bluffs along the Mississippi.
