Rosalie is one of the most dramatically sited mansions in Natchez, perched on the bluff with the Mississippi River visible from the rear garden. Built in 1820 in the Federal style — brick construction, a modest portico, none of the later Greek Revival excess — it is older and quieter than many of the showier houses, and its garden and river views are unmatched in the historic district.
The Mississippi State Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution has operated Rosalie since 1938 and maintains it as a house museum with most of its original furnishings. The tour is informative without being overwhelming. The garden behind the house is free to visit and worth a few minutes even if you skip the interior.
