The Terminal Building at 947 O Street is a twelve-story office tower built in 1916 and one of downtown Lincoln's best pieces of early commercial architecture. The building served as headquarters for the Burlington Railroad during its years of dominance in the region, and its name — slightly grandiose for what is essentially a mid-rise office block — reflects the railroad era's confidence that Lincoln would become a major commercial center.
The building is on the National Register of Historic Places and has been well-maintained as an office building, its terracotta facade largely intact. It is not open for tourist visits, but it contributes significantly to the character of downtown's historic commercial streetscape. Worth noting in passing if you are walking along O Street.
