One of the oldest college art museums in the United States, the Hood holds around 70,000 objects spanning five thousand years. The collection is strongest in Assyrian stone reliefs from the palace of Ashurnasirpal II (about 875 BCE), Native American art across many traditions, and American paintings from the colonial period onward. European works include prints and drawings by Picasso, Rembrandt, and Goya. Admission is free. The museum reopened in 2019 after a major expansion by Tod Williams Billie Tsien Architects that doubled its gallery space.
