Belmar's beach is its reason for existing. A full mile of wide, clean sand runs between the Shark River inlet at the north end of town and the Spring Lake border to the south. The beach is wide enough that even on a packed August weekend you can find a strip of sand to claim. Facilities are good — clean restrooms, lifeguard coverage through the summer season, and concession stands at the main access points.
Beach badges are required from Memorial Day through Labor Day. The daily fee is a few dollars, the seasonal pass is worth it if you are staying for more than a few days. The money goes directly to beach maintenance and shows. The badge check is enforced at the main access ramps; arrive before 9 am or stay past 5 pm if you want to avoid paying. The beach is free outside those hours and the early morning and late afternoon light on the water is better anyway.
