Belmar's beach runs for about a mile between the Shark River inlet to the north and the Spring Lake border to the south. It's wide, clean, and well-maintained — the town takes its beach seriously and it shows. Beach badges are required in summer; the fee is modest and includes access to lifeguards and clean restrooms. The sand never gets as overcrowded as Seaside Heights or Point Pleasant, even on peak summer weekends.
The surf breaks near the jetties attract a dedicated local surf scene. Several surf schools operate from the beach in summer and cater to beginners. For families who want calmer water, the middle stretch of the beach is sheltered enough for comfortable swimming. Arrive early in high season to find parking on Ocean Avenue — the blocks fill up fast.
