Mint Museum Uptown

The Mint Museum Uptown occupies a striking building at 500 South Tryon Street, designed by Gwathmey Siegel and opened in 2010. It is the larger of the two Mint Museum locations in Charlotte, focusing on American and contemporary art, craft and design, and fashion. The permanent collection includes significant holdings in American studio ceramics, art glass, and textile works, making it one of the better craft and design museums in the Southeast.

The museum's architecture — a geometric tower that anchors the cultural Levine Center for the Arts complex — is part of the attraction. Several other cultural institutions share the same block, including the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art and the Harvey B. Gantt Center, making this corner of Uptown an efficient destination for a full day of museums. The Mint Museum Randolph on Randolph Road, the original location, focuses on European and pre-Columbian art.
