Salem Academy (founded 1772) and Salem College (1772 as well, with college status from 1866) together form the oldest continuously operating educational institution for girls and women in the United States. The campus, immediately south of Old Salem, is small and walkable, with several restored 18th- and 19th-century buildings still in academic use.
It is not a formal visitor attraction — there is no museum or visitor centre — but the campus is open to the public and the architecture is more or less unbroken Moravian-Federal style. A short loop on foot adds 30 minutes to an Old Salem visit.
