Goodyear World of Rubber

Address 200 Innovation Way

The Goodyear World of Rubber is the small corporate museum maintained by Goodyear at its East Akron headquarters complex. The exhibits cover the history of the company — Charles Goodyear's accidental discovery of vulcanisation in 1839, the founding of Goodyear in Akron in 1898, the Wingfoot blimp, the racing tyres, and the Apollo lunar rover tyres (a moulded copy of which is on display).

It is not a large museum — an hour is enough — but it is one of the few places where the centrality of rubber to twentieth-century Akron is explained clearly and with the original objects: production-line displays, vintage tyre and rubber-toy collections, archival photography of the rubber factory floor in the 1920s and 1930s.

Free admission; check ahead for current opening hours, which have varied with Goodyear's corporate scheduling. The visitor entrance is at the eastern side of the campus on Innovation Way.
