The LeVeque Tower is Columbus's most recognisable building, a 47-story Art Deco skyscraper from 1927 that dominates the downtown skyline with its octagonal crown and distinctive copper ornamentation. When it was built it was the tallest building in the world outside New York and Chicago — a reflection of how prosperous Columbus was in the 1920s.
The building has Moorish ornamental details around its upper floors that are unusual for American Art Deco, including terracotta tile patterns and a distinctive pointed top. The ground floor lobby has been restored and is worth stepping into for the metalwork and mosaic floor. The building now contains a hotel, and even if you are not staying you can usually look around the public spaces.
