Maumee River Waterfront

The Maumee River runs through downtown Toledo, and after decades of being treated as a working barge corridor the city has slowly built a riverfront promenade — Promenade Park on the west bank, the International Park on the east bank, and a 1925 truss-and-cable bridge (the Anthony Wayne Bridge) that holds the whole panorama together.

The freshwater willet birds, the docked Coast Guard cutter Mobile Bay, the Sandpiper sightseeing boat that runs short tours of the harbour in summer, and the National Museum of the Great Lakes (just across the river in East Toledo) are the things to do on a half-day spent here. The waterfront is also the venue for the city's biggest festivals — Glass City Marathon, Northwest Ohio Rib Off, and the Solheim Cup parties.
