Toledo's headline attraction is the Toledo Museum of Art — comprehensive, free, and home to a glass collection that punches well above the city's weight. Beyond the museum, the rest of a Toledo visit is the Mud Hens at Fifth Third Field, a few quirks unique to the place (a museum of lithophanes, the Art Tatum monument, a 1981 hot dog bun signed by Jimmy Carter), and a riverfront that has only recently figured out it's a riverfront.
It's not a pretty city — there's no pretending otherwise — but it has weight, character and a refusal to pretend to be Columbus or Cleveland. A day or two covers it well.
