Medicine Park

A tiny "cobblestone village" of around 400 people just outside the Wichita Mountains, built in the 1900s as a spa resort and given a thorough revival in the 1990s. Almost every building is faced with rounded river cobbles. The village sits on Medicine Creek; the natural swimming hole at the centre, with its dam-fed pool, is open in summer.

Half a day is enough to walk the village, eat lunch at the Old Plantation restaurant, and look into the small Medicine Park Aquarium and Natural Sciences Center. It is an easy and slightly surreal stop on the way to or from the refuge.
