When to Go

Spring and autumn are the most comfortable times in northeastern Oklahoma — warm days, cool nights and dramatic skies. Summer is hot, humid and prone to violent thunderstorms; this is the western edge of Tornado Alley and severe-weather watches are common between April and June.

If you can time your visit, the Miami Heritage Festival at the Coleman Theatre and the NEO Rodeo in the autumn are the most distinctive local events. Winter is usually mild but ice storms can close roads for a day or two at a time.
