Day Trips

Moore is really a base, not a destination, and almost everything worth seeing is a short drive away. Oklahoma City is 15 minutes north — its Oklahoma City National Memorial, Bricktown entertainment district, and the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum are all worth half-day excursions.

Norman lies 15 minutes south, home to the University of Oklahoma, the Sam Noble Museum of natural history, and the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art. An hour east is the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge, the only place in Oklahoma where you can see free-roaming bison against a backdrop of granite peaks. The Chickasaw National Recreation Area at Sulphur, an hour south, has springs and small lakes good for a summer day's swimming.
