Spring and autumn are the best windows in central Oklahoma. April through early June and September through October bring warm days, cool nights, and dramatic skies. Summer is brutally hot — daytime highs reliably above 35°C (95°F), with high humidity and very little shade — and winter, while mild on paper, brings sudden ice storms that can shut down the entire state.
Spring is also peak tornado season. The risk runs from late March through June, with mid-May the historical peak — the catastrophic Moore tornadoes of 1999 and 2013 both struck in May. Visitors should know that public storm shelters exist and that local TV stations carry continuous live tornado coverage during outbreaks. Most days are fine, but the weather here demands attention.
